DC MAIREAD MACLEAN MYSTERIES
Gripping mysteries set in the Hebrides, featuring the brilliant Detective Constable Mairead Maclean.
Mairead was born on South Uist in the Hebrides, and now works as a detective constable in Glasgow, having fled her home twenty-one years ago. Her empathetic nature stands in stark contrast to her more cynical, hollowed-out colleagues. Despite how long she’s been away from home, she remains deeply connected to the island’s culture.
In THE LONG ISLE, we follow her return to the islands, where she is immediately thrown into a murder investigation after a body is found on an idyllic Uist beach.
While my usual settings have shifted to the islands, the focus remains on the same fast pacing you’ve seen in my previous work, but in a small community like this, the investigation is intense, intimate, and deeply personal.
It’s also very personal for me. I have a family bond to South Uist going back decades, and I spent many holidays roaming the machair and the massive dunes around Askernish, and climbing Ben Kenneth with my dad and sister (and nearly getting blown clean off the top of the summit! I think I was about eleven at the time).
This is a more intimate thriller for me, perhaps closer to Broadchurch or Ann Cleeves Shetland series than my usual style. I’m really excited about people discovering it.
